HOW THE BRAKES FUNCTION
When the friction material [from the brake pads] wears completely away, there is nothing left but the metal plate against a metal rotor, which has very little stopping power and generates a tremendous amount of heat.
“This excessive heat can destroy other, more expensive components of your brake system, including your rotors, calipers, brake lines and wheel bearings. These additional repairs are avoidable with regular brake inspections.”
HOW THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS FUNCTION
Struts and shocks are very similar in function, but very different in design. The job of both is to control excessive spring motion; however, struts are also a structural component of the suspension.
Struts can take the place of two or three conventional suspension components and are often used as a pivot point for steering and to adjust the position of the wheels for alignment purposes.
HOW THE A/C FUNCTIONS
You may find it necessary to recharge your vehicle’s air conditioning system from time to time. The loss of refrigerant over time can cause the system to lose its cooling efficiency.
If you start to notice that your air conditioner isn’t cooling off your vehicle like it used to, feel free to bring it into PERFORMANCE AUTO CARE. One of our ASE certified service technicians can inspect your A/C system and refill your system’s refrigerant, if needed. Our service experts take pride in their superior craftsmanship and timely process, for all makes and models, both foreign and domestic. You can Schedule an Appointment via our online form or by calling our Service Center at 760-480-6666Our Air Conditioning System Inspection Includes:
- Visual inspection of air conditioner components
- Outlet temperature analysis to help our experts determine your vehicle’s cooling performance
- Check system pressure readings
- Leak test

HOW THE OIL CHANGE FUNCTIONS
When it comes to routine maintenance, changing your oil is one of the more inexpensive services. Despite its relatively low cost, oil plays a vital, multifaceted role in your engine, and spending a little money on routine oil changes can help prevent you from forking over large sums of cash down the road.
HOW THE ENGINE REBUILD FUNCTIONS
The usual reasons for rebuilding an engine are loss of compression, excessive oil consumption, or excessive oil clearances. The symptoms of loss of compression are extended cranking (hard to start), lack of power, or a misfire (running rough). All of these symptoms can be caused by lack of compression, but they can also be caused by other things, so before the engine is rebuilt it should be diagnosed by performing a compression or leakdown test. Oil consumption is the loss of motor oil even though there are no significant external oil leaks. It can be caused by worn valve guides, dried valve guide seals, stuck oil control rings, or excessive cylinder to piston clearance. It also can be caused by a very inexpensive PCV valve. So try replacing this first before condemning the engine.
The most common symptom of excessive oil clearances is an awful knock coming from the engine. Low oil pressure is also a symptom of excessive oil clearances but is less common (by the time the oil pressure goes low there’s usually an engine knock evident). Engine knock can be caused by worn rod bearings, main bearings, piston pins, pistons, and cam bearings.
Sometimes some types of engine knock can be repaired with the engine in the car. The engine must be partially disassembled to know for sure.
